TWO YEAR CERTIFICATE PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM HOMESTEAD SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Admission screening begins in the 10th grade only. There is no enrollment in the Nursing Program for the 11th or 12th grade as the curriculum approved by the State Board of Nursing has a required number of hours the student must complete prior to the 11th grade. If a student does not enter the pre-nursing classes in the 10th grade, he/she will be ineligible for admission into our Practical Nursing Program. All candidates are selected from our pre-nursing courses. Admission is therefore, competitive.
- Passing 10th grade FCAT scores
- Minimum of a C in English and Math classes
- Completed pre-requisite classes with a minimum of a C+ (2.2points):
· Health Science A (also called Health Science 2) · Health Science B (also called Health Science 1)
- Satisfactory school and class attendance
- Written parental permission is required, as well as attendance at a Parent-Student Orientation meeting (date TBA).
- Completed and validated Physical Examination Report from the Health Science Education Programs, Office of Applied Technology. This includes, but is not limited to, medical clearance for participation, and updated immunizations.
- Cleared background check, if applicable.
- Official admission is complete when all requirements have been met. New students accepted into the program must begin the Practical Nursing courses the first day of school.
